Sumter Yarn Explosion - A community art project
Community Art Project - Last year, Sumter residents all over the county started gathering in the name of art. Neighbors from all walks of life came together for almost a year to collectively create something in unity. Over 4000 adults and students committed to the project. They worked hundreds of hours in classes and "bomb sessions" creating amazing pieces of crocheted art. March 2019 we embarked on our first yarn bomb and it was worth all the work. We turned the Sumter County Cultural Center into a fun and beautiful place to visit.
The best part about the project actually can't be seen on our grounds or in these pictures. We witnessed complete strangers become close friends. We witnessed random acts of kindness. We witnessed so many touching stories. We witnessed people supporting each other. Thank you #TeamSumter for lending your time and talent to this project. We hope you stay connected to each other and the cultural center. Special thanks to our friends at Central Carolina Community Foundation for funding this project through their Connected Communities grant. A BIG thank you to our Bomb Squad Leaders – Michelle Ross, Ashley Long, Cindy Macias, and Heidi Adler. We couldn't have done this without you. |
