The Sumter County Cultural Center’s mission is to educate and retain the next generation, encourage economic vitality, and improve the quality of life for our residents through the Arts. From community events, graduations, and shows to symphonies, musicals, and performances, this is the place for #SumterCulture. We welcome over 100,000 guests annually and host a series of fun, family-friendly events throughout the year.
It is home to the Sumter Gallery of Art, Sumter Little Theatre, Patriot Hall, Sumter Community Concert Band, Sumter Civic Chorale, and the Sumter Community Jazz Band. The historic building and the creativity inside are community treasures.
The Sumter County Cultural Commission works with the Cultural Center to promote the arts in Sumter. This group was created by a city/county ordinance in 1974 and its members are appointed by the Sumter County Council. They also administer a Small Grant Program which helps eligible organizations and individuals produce arts-related programming, events, and other activities for the community to enjoy. The Cultural Commission is funded in part by the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC.
